APS MCC - AIRLINE PILOT STANDARD AND MULTI CREW COORDINATION
At CAPA, we don’t just train pilots; we train pilots ready for a position as a First Officer in an airline. Therefore, for many years, we have chosen to offer our pilots a significantly expanded MCC course as part of an integrated training program. This extensively expanded course has been highly sought after by the industry, which is in search of pilots with a strong understanding of working in a two-pilot concept. The training is more focused on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Type rating, making it more relevant to the job of a modern commercial pilot. Today, we refer to this comprehensive course as an APS MCC.
THE COURSE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
- Jet performance including mass and balance
- Low visibility operation
- RVSM theory
- TCAS
- QRH NNC philosophy
- Technical course for the simulator
APS MCC is an EASA concept that has been implemented as a standard in Europe. We are part of the EASA working group that has worked on these tasks, and it is largely based on our experiences with the extended MCC course that we have the APS MCC today!
MCC serves two main purposes: to actualize and integrate theoretical knowledge with flying and to train multi-pilot procedures with correct callouts and pilot roles in both normal and emergency situations. This is conducted in manual, semi-automatic, and automatic flying scenarios in approved flight simulators (of which we have several, both B737 and A320).
The course is tailored to prepare and equip our students for the job search after completing their education. It meets the requirements and the
standard that airlines desire and seek for their pilots. The program also includes a Jet Orientation Course (JOC), which is a course in jet/turboprop handling, familiarization, training, and development of teamwork, assertiveness, empathy, as well as cockpit and error management.
Pilots take turns being Pilot Flying and Pilot Monitoring. They are instructed through all aspects of MCC, including the use of videos depicting actual events and relevant scenarios that are reviewed and analyzed. The teaching allows for questions and discussions.
APS MCC is an integral part of the training for all pilots at CAPA. The course includes 40 hours of simulator flying and corresponding theory.
